Tropical Storm Barry forms in Gulf of Mexico, no threat to Florida

MIAMI, Florida (CBSMiami) - The second Tropical Storm of the season, named Barry, has formed in the Gulf of Mexico.

At 1:45 p.m., Barry's center was in the Bay of Campeche about 75 miles east-northeast of Veracruz, Mexico. It was moving to the west at about 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Punta el Lagarto to Barra de Nautla, Mexico.

The Nation Hurricane Center forecasts that the system will slow down late Wednesday. On the forecast track, the center of the storm will reach the coast in the state of Veracruz, Mexico on Thursday morning.
