Cincinnati, OH (AP) — Notre Dame has a new football coach.

Brian Kelly is leaving the University of Cincinnati for the hot seat in South Bend, Ind. Kelly, who had a record of 34-and-6 with the Bearcats, replaces the fired Charlie Weis.

Kelly was also named Coach of the Year Friday. The Bearcats set a school record last season for victories with an 11-3 record, then topped that with a 12-0 mark this season heading into its Sugar Bowl matchup with Florida. The Bearcats went BCS bowling last year in the Orange Bowl against Virginia Tech.

Kelly told his players he was leaving to coach the Irish after the Bearcats' team banquet in Cincinnati on Thursday night. Offensive coordinator Jeff Quinn will coach the team in its bowl game.
