Tampa, Florida -- Joe Maddon is at it again. The Rays manager kicked off his 8th annual Thanksmas tour Friday night at 717 South in Tampa.
Each year, Maddon buys the food and, with the help of Rays coaches and staff, cooks and serves meals at several Salvation Army centers across Tampa Bay in appreciation of their year-round efforts to serve our neighbors in need.

Over the past seven years, Maddon's Thankmas has served approximately 6,000 individuals in need, providing many of those individuals with clothing and shoes as well as the memorable experience of sharing a holiday meal with local sports heroes.
In 2012, as a result of numerous donations from generous Rays' fans and Maddon's fundraising efforts, Thanksmas was also able to present $7,500 each to Salvation Army centers in St. Petersburg, Tampa, and Clearwater, and the Sallie House.
On Dec. 18, Thanksmas will return to The Salvation Army of Hillsborough County. Since 1893, The Salvation Army has provided homeless and low-income individuals and families in Hillsborough County with housing, food, clothing and support services necessary to obtain self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life.
"Thanksmas is a one-of-a-kind event that touches so many across Tampa Bay," said Major James Hall, Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Hillsborough County. "The staff and Advisory Board of The Salvation Army of Hillsborough County are so very grateful to Mr. Maddon and the players who support him in providing this holiday blessing to our shelter residents and other needy members of our community."
