St. Petersburg, Florida (AP/WTSP) -- Major League Baseball issued fines stemming from a verbal spat between Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price and umpire crew chief Tom Hallion over the weekend that later spilled over onto Twitter.

The Tampa Tribune reports Price was fined $1,000. Hallion, along with Rays pitchers Jeremy Hellickson and Matt Moore, are also believed to have been fined $1,000.

Price accused Hallion of directing an expletive toward him during the Rays' 8-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The AL Cy Young winner thought Hallion missed a pitch, and exchanged words with the plate umpire while heading to the dugout after the seventh inning.

Other pitchers in the dugout yelled at Hallion, who then ejected Hellickson.

Hallion later called Price a "liar." Price took to Twitter and disputed Hallion's version. MLB policy prohibits players from using social media like Twitter to criticize umpires.
