Tampa, Fla. -- Logan Payne has trained at Johnson Sports Fitness since his sophomore year at Land O'Lakes High School.  He's always looking for an edge while working with his trainer, Jodie Johnson.

After more than a decade working together, trainer and athlete are always looking for new ideas.  Enter VertiMax.

"All the plyometric stuff that I do, we can almost add (the Vertimax) to everyone of them," Payne said. "It's very versatile in that respect."

VertiMax is described on the company's website as "the best speed and vertical jump performance trainer in the world."

It is the brainchild of Michael Wehrell.  He first designed a training device to help him improve his vertical jump in beach volleyball.

After players on the AVP circuit praised the product, Wehrell created VertiMax.  It's now used in dozens of weightrooms across professional sports, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Now what was designed mostly for high-level athletes, VertiMax has a surprising target market.

"Our number one buyer is actually a parent with an average age athlete of 12 years old, which surprised me and I never expected that to happen," Wehrell said.

While that's the new buyer, the most impressive athletes to watch using the VertiMax are professional athletes.  Payne is a five-year NFL veteran wide receiver, and he praises the product's durability.

"What we do with it, it's amazing that we haven't broke yet," Payne said. "Honestly, we push this thing to the limit."
