Buies Creek, NC (Sports Network) - Campbell University reportedly will introduce former Carolina Panthers safety Mike Minter as the team's new head coach on Tuesday.

Campbell, a member of the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League, has scheduled a news conference on Tuesday, and The Fayetteville Observer reported Monday that Minter is the choice to succeed Dale Steele, who was fired after five seasons and a 14-41 record.

Minter, 38, is the special teams coach at Liberty. He has previous stints as an assistant coach at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte and the head coach at First Assembly Christian high school in Concord.

A former safety, Minter graduated from Nebraska in 1997 and is in the school's Hall of Fame. He spent 10 years in the NFL with the Panthers and holds a team record for consecutive starts with 141.

Campbell reinstituted its football program under Steele in 2006 after it had been dormant since 1950. The Camels were 1-10 this season (0-8 PFL), ranking 114th in the FCS in total offense and 117th in total defense.
