San Luis Obispo, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dave Nwaba scored a game-high 21
points as the Cal Poly Mustangs captured a 64-53 win over the Santa Clara
Broncos in non-conference action at Mott Gym.
Nwaba was the only player to score in double figures for the Mustangs (3-5),
although Chris Eversley came within a point of a double-double as he cleared a
game-high 15 rebounds, snapping the team's two-game slide.
The Broncos (2-5), losers of five of the last six, were paced by Evan
Roquemore and Brandon Clark with 12 points apiece, while Nate Kratch tallied
11 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for the visitors.
Cal Poly turned the ball over just three times in the first half, but at the
same time missed its only free-throw attempt in the period, leaving the squad
with a 29-23 advantage at the break.
After limiting Santa Clara to only 2-of-13 beyond the arc through the first 20
minutes of action, the Mustangs again played well on the perimeter as they
permitted just 2-of-7 in the second half, en route to the 11-point win.
Cal Poly shot only 15-of-27 at the charity stripe and 3-of-11 behind the 3-
point line, but made up for it with a 42-31 rebounding advantage.
