Pasco County, Florida -- Detective Lisa Schoneman has been working cold cases at the Pasco Sheriff's Office for 15 years, but it was in 2011 when she first got involved with the 1982 disappearance of two young women Amy Hurst and Wendy Huggy.

"They were put in the system and taken out and basically forgotten," Schoneman says.

That same year, a woman's body was found floating in the Gulf of Mexico unidentifiable. She is later buried.

Then in 2001, Schoneman says a detective working on Wendy Huggy's disappearance came across a teletype of a woman who was floating in the Gulf of Mexico.

The body was exhumed.

"It turns out it was not Wendy Huggy."

In 2009, Hurst's family started looking on the Internet and came across the 1982 body in Gulf found in a decorative family afghan and DNA confirmed it was Hurst.

"If we hadn't exhumed Amy's body looking for Wendy we never would have found Amy. She would have sat there in that grave. One helped find the other," Schoneman says.

Schoneman now had another 30-year-old cold case on her hands. Seventeen-year-old Wendy Huggy was last seen in Clearwater.

"Well, she never came home," Schoneman says.

Schoneman will be live on Facebook communicating with viewers of the 48 Hours episode in effort to gain new information.

"If it's a possibility that I can get a strong lead from someone that knows something about Wendy, then I'm more than happy to do that," Schoneman explains.
