Sanibel, Florida (News-Press) -- Two people jumped off a burning 40-foot boat two miles south of Sanibel on Monday morning.
Cape Coral Fire Department reports that the two occupants were picked
up from the water by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission. They were transferred to a Cape Coral Fire Department boat
and taken to the docks near Sanibel Causeway for evaluation.
Heeder, Cape fire spokesman, said the two were conscious and stable,
but where taken to an area hospital as a precaution.
The fire was reported around 11 a.m. and created a smoke plume that could be seen for miles.
