John Rogers, who is legally blind, was acquitted of shooting and killing James DeWitt. A judge ordered that Rogers' guns be returned to him.

GENEVA, Florida (CNN/WESH) -- A blind man who shot and killed a man in Florida gets his guns back.

John Rogers was acquitted of charges in the man's shooting death. A judge ruled last week that while he did not want to return Rogers's guns back to him -- the law required him to.

"I'm happy that justice was done," said Rogers.

His guns were confiscated by law enforcement after he shot and killed a man. But Rogers was acquitted.

The judge said he had no choice but to return Rogers's 10mm Glock, along with a rifle that was used to kill 34-year-old James DeWitt.

The shooting happened at Rogers' home in Geneva during a fight in March 2012.

Rogers spent time in jail and went to trial in January and was granted immunity using the "Stand Your Ground" law.

Rogers, who is legally blind and walks with a cane because of a construction accident, said he needs the guns for protection.

"It's my constitutional right," Rogers said. "Second of all, I wasn't carrying these firearms around. I was in my house on five acres on a private road in Geneva out of the way."

The former Marine left the Seminole County courthouse hoping to end the controversy.

"The family has been through enough, and I feel like have been through enough, and I would like to retire and put this behind me and move forward," Rogers said.

The judge did order that all ammunition to be destroyed. He said it was too old and dangerous.
