Clearwater, Florida -- Police are investigating an apparent homicide in a Countryside neighborhood.
Authorities say 33-year-old Matthew Lohoski drove to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office headquarters and told a deputy there he had killed his mother in their home on Trinidad Drive.
The sheriff's office then contacted Clearwater police, who found the woman's body in the back yard of the house. They say she died from upper body trauma.
Police say Lohoski's 7-year-old daughter was home at the time of the slaying. She was reportedly inside a bedroom and it's not known at this time if she saw or heard the crime.
Lohoski allegedly drove his daughter to a friend's house before going to the sheriff's office.
