Tampa, Florida -- Youngsters helped kick off The Too Good For Drugs Jr. Gasparilla Classic on Saturday.

More than 1,700 little ones turned out at the University of Tampa.

Rather than being a competition, the Jr. Classic places emphasis on getting the kids involved in a healthy activity. Every child wore the number "1" and each received a finisher's Medal.

Next weekend is the Gasparilla Distance Classic for adults. Thousands of runners will be invading downtown Tampa for a 5k, 8k, 10k, 15k, and a half-marathon.
