St. Petersburg, FL -- Long before she was known as the Material Girl, music sensation Madonna lived with aspiring artist Martin Burgoyne on New York's lower eastside.

The two were best friends before Burgoyne died from AIDS in 1986, at the age of 23.

Now Burgoyne's parents, who live in the St. Petersburg area, are auctioning off a collection of their son's items at Myers Antiques and Fine Art on 4th Street N.

"People that were friends of his describe him as this incandescent person that just lit up and was just full of life and a really good sweat person," said Myers Antiques co-owner Mary Dowd.

The collection being put up on the auction block includes an original Andy Warhol drawing of Burgoyne, plus Polaroids possibly taken by Warhol.

Also for sale are some black and white photos of Madonna, platinum and gold records and the original invitation by Keith Haring to a fundraiser for Burgoyne after he contracted AIDS.

A series of photo booth pictures of Madonna will be sold off too. The photos were used on the cover of Madonna's first EP, Burning Up and featured in the book Madonna Lucky Star.

"I think the fact that (the pictures) are from early in her career makes it even more interesting."

Burgoyne's sketchbook will also be for sale, which includes numerous pictures and drawings of Madonna.

Already more than 400 people have registered for the February 9 auction, but one person Dowd says she's yet to hear from is Madonna.

"Perhaps there's a museum down the road for Madonna or a library and this is a big part of the beginning of her career and it's a pivotal point, so hopefully, I think she's going to end up with it. But we'll see, maybe not."

Dowd says the item that may go for the most is the Warhol drawing.

"There's going to be a lot of people interested in it, because of the connection with Madonna and the fact that (Burgoyne) died shortly after the drawing was done."
