The Transportation Security Administration is finding more firearms each year at airport checkpoints, including this gun and ammunition found at Nashville airport the week ending Dec. 27.

TAMPA, FL - Airport security is confiscating more guns, according to reports by the Transportation Security Administration. The TSA says agents found about five guns per day in US airports in 2013, that's 20 percent more than in 2010.
Here's the breakdown:
In 2010 TSA confiscated 1,123 guns
In 2013 TSA confiscated almost 1,800 guns
Tampa International Airport ranked 11th in the U.S. when it came to confiscated firearms.
TSA's policy says firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts are not allowed in carry-on baggage. However unloaded firearms, stored in locked, hard-sided containers can be transported as checked baggage.
According to the TSA blog, agents founds 28 guns last week, one of those was at Tampa International Airport, but it was not loaded. As for gun numbers overall, the latest information we found is from Sept. 2013. At that point TSA confiscated 29 guns in Tampa.
