City of St. Pete reminds residents not to illegally remove trees

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The city of St. Petersburg has received a number of calls and e-mails regarding illegal tree removal within the Greater Pinellas Point neighborhood.  

As a reminder to all residents and businesses within the city, tree removal permits are required prior to removal of any protected species. The requirement for a permit applies regardless of whether a protected tree is healthy, diseased, or dead. 

Protected trees include: Ash (Prickly - aka Wild Lime), Bay (Red), Buttonwood, Cedar, Cypress, Dogwood, Elm, Hickory (Pignut), Holly, Magnolia, Maple, Oak, Palm (Royal or Cabbage min 4' trunk), Pines, Plum (Chickasaw or Flatwoods), Mulberry (Red), Sea Grape, Sugarberry, Sweet Gum, Sycamore, Tupelo, Willow

Reporting Illegal Removal - Anyone wishing to report potentially illegal removal is encouraged to contact the City's Codes Compliance Assistance Department at 727.893.7373.  Reports of potentially illegal tree removal can be submitted anonymously.
