Deputies arrest man in violent robbery on pedestrian

LAKE PLACID, Florida --  Highlands County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested an 18-year-old, now charged in last week's alleged violent attack and robbery of a man walking down the street.

Investigators say the victim was walking around Saint Lucie Street around 5:00pm January 5th, when a car pulled up behind him and several occupants jumped out and gave chase.

Detectives say the victim was struck with a handgun and robbed.

Thursday morning, deputies arrested 18-year-old Alkheem Portee on a warrant associated with the case. He's been charged with grand theft, robbery with a firearm, and illegal use of credit cards.

Portee was booked into the Highlands County Jail is being held without bond.
