WASHINGTON (AP) - Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is heading to Israel to attend the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
On Sunday, President Barack Obama announced he was sending a presidential delegation to the funeral. Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Eliot Engel, D-NY, U.S. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro and former ambassador Daniel Kurtzer will join her.
Sharon died Saturday, eight years after a debilitating stroke put him into a coma. His body was to lie in state at the parliament on Sunday before he is laid to rest at his ranch in southern Israel on Monday, Israeli media reported.
President Barack Obama remembered Sharon as "a leader who dedicated his life to the state of Israel."
