MIAMI (AP) - Coast Guard officials say an aircrew rescued a man on a sailboat from heavy winds and seas off the Florida Keys.
The U.S. Coast Guard reports that a man living aboard a sailboat radioed for help early Tuesday morning. A helicopter from Air Station Miami and a small boat from Station Islamorada responded.
High winds and rough seas kept rescuers from reaching the boat. So at the direction of the aircrew, the man - wearing a life jacket - jumped into the water, where a rescue swimmer met him. The man and the rescuer were then raised to the helicopter together.
The man was treated for minor injuries at Air Station Miami.
The Coast Guard reports that weather conditions during the rescue were 10-12 foot seas and 30-35 mph winds.
