Tampa, Florida -- UPDATE: Brian Morales, The Blake High School resource officer arrested Thursday for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, bonded out Friday.

Police say so far, he is not cooperating with their investigation.

Morales turned 38 Friday.

The Tampa Police Department arrested and fired a school resource officer from Blake High School after two years on the job for having sex with a 17-year-old student.

At a press conference Thursday, Chief Jane Castor said Officer Brian Morales was terminated, and charged with eight counts of sexual activity with a minor.

Investigators say Morales- who is married and a father- allegedly met the girl at Blake, and had been having sexual relations with her since October 24, reportedly in his home and personal vehicle on multiple occasions while off-duty.

The sexual relationship came to light when the girl's mother found out and alerted staff at the school, who later relayed the information to police.

Students and parents were shocked at the news thursday.

"Everybody was cool with him. Everybody who I hung with was cool with him. I don't know anybody that didn't like him," said a Blake High School Senior who did not want to be identified.

"Not just the fact that he's a police... it's that he's a grown man and he's at a school where he knows that's a child," said Carl Mott Jr., the parent of a Blake High School student.

During questioning Wednesday, officials say they had to baker act Morales because he made threats to harm himself. He was arrested upon his release Thursday.

"He certainly doesn't deserve to wear the Tampa police department uniform," Chief Castor said during the press conference.

The chief also said that there was nothing in Morales' past that would prevent him from being around children.

"...And then the fact that he was a school resource officer, and deserves the trust and respect of the students that they oversee- is just disgraceful," she added.
