Pasco County, Florida -- A couple weeks before Christmas, one Pasco County family is planning a funeral instead of holiday cheer.

Sheriff's deputies said 16-year-old Tuvarrion Sirmons was stabbed to death on Friday afternoon at the Meadow Pointe Two Clubhouse off County Line Road in Wesley Chapel.

"It was the worst call I have ever had," said Sirmons' mother, Lavon Pearson. "I was driving from Lakeland back home when his friend called me and said he was hurt and it was not looking good. I tried to get there as fast as I could."

Deputies said 18-year-old Cleave Gittens and Sirmons were arguing near a home where Gittens lived and then they stopped and walked away from each other. Then, deputies said Gittens followed Sirmons to his friend's home in the Meadow Pointe Two Clubhouse area, where they began arguing again.

Gittens was taken into custody that evening and, on Saturday, he was charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of Sirmons. Sirmons died at a Tampa hospital.

"We do not know who that boy is," said Pearson. "He is not a friend of my son's, because I knew my son's friends. I feel for his mother, though, my heart goes out to her family, because even though her son took my son's life, her son might never see the light of day after justice is served. My heart goes out to her."

Deputies said Gittens has a record with the Pasco County jail. He has faced nine months of time there before. He has been charged in the past for drugs, weapons, and burglary at only 18 years old.

"He is the person on the block that everybody had a problem with, and when we put him into the sheriff's office car, heads were shaking like they were relieved," said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.

Pearson's family members, including nieces and her daughter and grandson, all came by to mourn Sirmons together on Saturday.

"Tuvarrion was so funny, and he was always trying to make people laugh and joking around, sometimes too much," laughed Pearson.

She worried about planning for the holidays, Christmas being her favorite, but now with her only son's death it has changed its meaning.

"This will be the worst time of year for me now," said Pearson.

Grief counselors will be at Sirmons' high school on Monday, Zephyrhills High School.
