New Port Richey, Florida - It was an emotional day in court on Friday for the sentencing of a man convicted of beating 94-year-old Ann Parlato to death.

Parlato's family members spoke in court about the woman they loved and about how kind and giving she was. The man convicted of killing her was her neighbor, 50 -year-old John Sexton. Sexton did yard work for Parlato.

Years earlier Sexton told 10 News he and his wife were swingers during and interview where they defended a swingers club under scrutiny called Club Elite which is now closed.

Sexton was silent in court and walked in dressed in a striped inmate uniform. His wife Catherine was in the courtroom too. He'd claimed during his murder trial that he had a rough childhood, suffers from mental illness and had a drinking problem when he brutally murdered Parlato in her Port Richey home in September of 2010.

Parlato's face was crushed, her ribs were broken, her spine dislocated and she'd been sexually assaulted. Parlato's friends and family who attended the Sexton's sentencing hearing say the judge's death sentence was right on target.

Dori Cifelli knew Parlota from church and says, "We're joyful, joyful, jubilant and that's all I'm going to say for the family because this is justice."

Jeri Barr is Parlota's neice and she says the crime is unforgiveable. "Never. There's no reason. How could you forgive a man who so brutally took the life of a 94 year old woman shakes her head. No." Barr says when Sexton takes his last breath she wants to be there.

Sexton's attorney meanwhile asked the judge about an appeal of the sentence and he also spoke about the possibility of a retrial.
