Clearwater, Florida -- A 35-year-old Clearwater man has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for beating his wife with a baseball bat.
Clearwater Police say earlier Monday, Jamel Lee Williams and his wife, Angel Nixon, got into a verbal argument in Room 18 of the Pleasant Inn, 1744 N. Fort Harrison Ave.
The argument turned violent when Williams pushed Nixon to the ground and began beating her in the head with his fist. Williams then grabbed a metal baseball bat and continued to hit Nixon with the bat as she laid on the floor.
She did not report the incident initially in fear for her own safety. Police did not find out about the crime until Monday afternoon when she checked herself into a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Nixon suffered wounds to her head and upper body from the beating.
Williams, 35, who has prior criminal offenses, is also charged with violation of probation. He is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail.
