Tampa, Florida -- Detectives have arrested a woman for the death of her son after conducting an extensive investigation into her son's death.
"I'm very surprised, very sad," said Maura Hall, Thompson's neighbor. "Me and Quanyisha - I used to come to her house and we used to (talk)."
October 1, Tampa Police officers responded to a home on Jackson Circle in Tampa regarding an infant who was not breathing. The child was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. Later that week, the child's mother, Quanyisha Thompson, admitted that she punched her son in the stomach four days prior to his death.
"I feel like if the child cried too much she probably abused him, but that's not the way you handle it." said friend Cedriona Jenkins.
Detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant after receiving the results of the complete autopsy examination confirming that the victim died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
Thompson turned herself into the police today and is enroute to the Hillsborough County Jail where she will be booked on murder and aggravated child abuse charges.
