Lakeland, Florida -- A driver trapped in his car after colliding with a minivan Thursday morning was successfully removed from his crippled car and rushed to the hospital.
Lakeland Fire officials say around 7 a.m., firefighters arrived at accident involving a compact car and a minivan on the eastbound lanes of I-4 in Lakeland.
When they arrived, all of the occupants of the mini-van had successfully gotten out of the van, but the driver of the compact car was trapped due to heavy front end damage to his vehicle.

Fire personnel immediately initiated medical treatment upon arrival, and with the help of Polk County Fire Rescue, closed all eastbound lanes of I-4 so they could extricate the man with the help of the "Jaws of Life".
He was then taken to an area hospital by ambulance. His condition, or identity, is not known at this time.
