Cops: Suspicious man overhead saying he wanted to kidnap kids playing at Philippe Park

Safety Harbor, Florida -- Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit are seeking information on a suspicious man who was last seen in the area of Philippe Park in Safety Harbor Sunday afternoon.

Deputies say around 2:43 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, they responded to a call of a suspicious man in the playground area of the park after a child in the playground overheard the man saying he wanted to kidnap the children who were playing there. 

Two witnesses saw the man watching the children and they told detectives at one point he tried to hide behind a tree before walking away from the playground. Detectives say the man didn't make any attempts to abduct a child.

The suspicious man was last seen walking north towards the park entrance just before deputies' arrival.

He is described as a white male in his 50's, approximately 5'6" to 5'9", and 180 to 200 lbs with brownish-blond hair with a receding hairline. He was wearing a black shirt with black pants.

The investigation continues.
