Polk County Sheriff's Office: David Breit's blood alcohol level was twice legal limit in Feb. 19 Lakeland crash

Polk County, Florida -- A man has been arrested for a DUI crash with a Blood Alcohol Content almost twice the legal limit.

Polk County Sheriff's deputies say 22-year-old David Breit was driving his SUV on U.S. Highway 98 on Feb. 19 when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Camaro driven by 22-year-old Garrett Putnam.

Investigators say Breit was driving at a speed of over 87 miles per hour in an area where the posted speed limit was 55. When deputies arrived at the crash site, Breit was not there, but near Fort Frasier Trail on Winterlake Road.

According to reports, Breit admitted to drinking prior to the crash. Toxicology results indicate Breit had a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.15. The legal limit is 0.08.

Putnam suffered serious injuries and continues to undergo treatment. 

Breit was booked into the Polk County Jail.
