Sebring, Florida-- Deputies arrested a woman on animal cruelty charges Saturday after finding 45 "malnourished and dirty" cats and dogs in her home, Highlands County Sheriff's officials said Monday.
According to their report, a "foul odor" complaint lead deputies to the home, located on the 4300 block of Lakewood Road. Inside, they found crates full of dogs and cats living in "deplorable" conditions.

Officials said the stench in the home was so strong, they needed to wear protective gear as they worked alongside Animal Control officers to remove the animals from the home, and to make sure no people were inside.
In all, 27 cats and 18 dogs were rescued, and taken to Animal Control.
The owner of the home, 59-year-old Michelle Brown, was not there at the time, but officials said it wasn't long before she arrived. After speaking with her, they placed her under arrest and took her to the Highlands County Jail. She was charged with 45 counts of animal cruelty, and her bond was set at $45,000.
