PALM HARBOR, Florida - Hundreds of people gathered at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor Monday to honor those who paid the ultimate price. The cemetery held its 28th Annual Memorial Day Service.

For many who attended it brought back memories, like Wallace Smith who fought in World War II while in the Navy.

"I'm lucky to be here. It's just one of those things that we think about the men," said Smith.

The service was complete with the Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allgiance, and the Placement of the Memorial Wreath. The Palm Harbor United Methodist Church Choir along with Bones South and Assembly provided the music.

Marine Staff Sergeant Damon Cecil was the guest speaker for the ceremony. He was the recipient of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce 2013 Marine NCO of the Year award. Staff Sgt. Cecil has been deployed a total of five times so far to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"It's humbling just to be here to speak, especially to the vets who are here. As a young marine, I have to remind them that they're not forgotten. That the people who didn't make it back, that came in caskets, that they're not forgotten," said Sgt. Cecil.

Staff Sergeant Cecil is set to go on his 6th tour come next year.
