POLK CO., Florida -- UPDATE: Investigators have arrested both suspects wanted in the Poinciana Home Invasion/Sexual Battery investigation.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says 33-year-old Richard Delgado Cruz was taken into custody Thursday, while Cruz's younger brother, 29-year-old Danny Delgado Cruz was arrested Thursday evening.
Past arrest records show Richard served time in Pinellas County for murder in 2000 and a home invasion robbery in 1996. He ultimately got a reduced charge of manslaughter and was released from prison in 2008.
Danny's list of priors surpasses his brother's, and includes possession of various drugs, battery, burglary, and grand larceny.
Early reports say both suspects will be charged with one count of armed robbery, one count of armed burglary of an occupied dwelling, one count of felon in possession of a weapon and one count of sexual battery.
Several people who live near Puffer Court and Halibut Road say they moved to the Poinciana neighborhood because it was quiet and quaint.
So they're especially shocked and saddened to hear about the frightening home invasion on Monday night that shattered the area's silence.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says just before 11 p.m. on Monday, two men who were masked and gloved held up guns and a machete to a 20-year-old as he stood outside his house talking on the phone.
According to detectives, the suspects then forced the 20-year-old to tie up his father. The men then tied up the son, Judd says, and took turns sexually assaulting his mother at gunpoint in a separate room. "But not only is it a brutal, sadistic rape," Sheriff Judd says, "in addition to that, then they cleansed her all over with bleach."
The suspects were apparently trying to eliminate all DNA and other evidence, but Judd hints that may not be a concern.
"We know how to gather physical evidence," he says.
Still, with these two suspects on the loose, both the sheriff's office and neighbors are concerned about what could happen next. "We've got to find them before these animals have the opportunity to do this to someone else," Judd says.
"I'm just so shaken and scared because I've got my family and everything," adds neighbor Antoine Broadway. "Lock everything up. Get yourself some dogs because people out here are just acting too crazy."
Polk County detectives believe the two suspects are between the ages of 26 and 38. One is 5'8" and the other is 6'1". They were last seen wearing dark pants and gray hoodies. Both men speak Spanish, and detectives believe one may be named Michael.
They're hoping someone has seen these men depositing a five-gallon jug full of money that they stole from the home, or may have spotted them purchasing masks and gloves.
