"People were going through security and they heard several shots, turned around and then started ducking. Everybody did as you would expect," said one passenger.

"They froze everybody. Nobody could walk for five minutes or so, but then let everyone go," said another.

According to police, 29-year-old Carnell Moore, shot into the ceiling as soon as he walked into terminal B.  A homeland security officer heard the shots and fired, while at the same time, Moore shot himself in the head.

Most passengers didn't see anything because their flight originated in neighboring Terminal C, but said they watched it unfold on terminal televisions.

Terrified families waiting in Tampa, called loved ones in Houston.

"I got a phone call actually from my wife saying 'where are you?!', she was concerned," said another passenger.
