(USA Today) ATLANTA - A pick-up truck tire that flew over a median wall on Interstate 85 north of Atlanta struck and killed a motorist traveling the opposite direction Friday morning.

Aila Masud, 47, of Tucker, Ga., was driving her minivan southbound on the freeway when a northbound Dodge pick-up lost a front tire, according to DeKalb County police. After it went over the median wall, it bounced over several lanes of traffic and landed on her roof.

"It was a beautiful day. When that person left home they didn't know this was going to be their last day,"Arthur Brown, whose wrecker service towed the damaged vehicle, told WGCL-TV, Atlanta. "Every morning when I leave my house I kiss my wife goodbye because I don't know if it's going to be my last time seeing her. Something could happen to me or something could happen to her."

Masud was taking her 16-year-old daughter to high school in the HOV lane when the accident happened, family members said. The teenager grabbed the wheel and was able to stop the van safely along the interstate. The daughter was taken to a hospital for evaluation but was released later in the day - in time for her mother's funeral.

DeKalb County police say the accident happened during the morning rush hour, around 8:30 a.m., and Masud died at the scene. Officers are continuing to investigate why the wheel came off the truck, driven by a man from Cartersville, Ga., about 40 miles northwest of Atlanta. The name of the driver has not been released.
