Pasco County, Florida -- Police were serving a warrant to a woman in Dade City when she committed suicide.

On April 24, around 10 in the morning, deputies from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office went to the home of Laura Bennet-Eckert in Dade City.

The deputies were there to serve her a warrant for a failure to appear charge which is a misdemeanor.

Reportedly, Bennet-Eckert was inside the home so deputies made contact with her through the door and asked her to come outside. She would not and instead spoke to the deputies through an open window.

Deputies say she then fired shots through the window but no deputies were injured.

Bennet-Eckert then barricaded herself inside one of the rooms in the home and shot herself in the chest. She has been pronounced dead.

Bennet-Eckert's husband was home at the time.
