Wahneta, Florida-- UPDATE: Officials have identified the driver involved in Wednesday's fatal, single-vehicle crash on Highway 60.
Zakery Zeigler, 18 of Bartow, was driving west on Highway 60 around 3:30 p.m. when reports say he lost control of his SUV near Rifle Range Rd., and drove into the median.
Zeigler reportedly over-corrected the mistake, and traveled back across the two westbound lanes- crashing his 2002 white Isuzu SUV into a a pair of trees.
Officials say Zeigler passed away from his injuries at the scene. It is unknown at this time if Zeigler was wearing a seatbelt. There are no obvious signs of impairment.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Polk County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide deputies announced they are working a fatal, single-vehicle crash on Highway 60 in Wahneta.
Preliminary reports said the highway will be reduced to one lane in the area west of Rifle Range Road and east of Hankin Road.
No additional information was included.
