Tampa, Florida - NTSB investigators are trying to figure out what caused a small plane to plunge out of the sky and into the water near the Bayside Bridge in Clearwater.

A salvage crew spent the evening raising the plane to the surface of the water using airbags and then towed into six miles to the boat ramp at the Courtney Campbell Expressway where it sits on Friday night.

"It was a bite choppy on the other side so that didn't help either," said Patrick Garrison, owner of Blue Water Diver & Salvage. "It's been a long day but it went pretty smooth"

The pilot, who survived the accident, plans to have a crew remove the wings so the aircraft can be towed to a new site on Saturday.

After it was hoisted onto dry land on Friday evening, an NTSB investigator was seen inspecting damage inside and outside the aircraft Friday night; however, results will not be released for some time.

The plane crashed into the bay after the pilot, Anthony Marsh, said his engine lost power, which caused him to plunge into the water.
