New Port Richey, Florida -- A 13-year veteran of the New Port Richey Police Department was fired last week after he failed to cooperate with an internal affairs investigation and notify his agency supervisor of his recent arrest on drug and alcohol charges.

On Jan. 17, Officer John Nohejl was pulled over by Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and FDLE agents on suspicion of selling both crack cocaine and prescription pills. Between his car and home, they found Hydrocodone pills, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

At the time of his arrest, Nohejl had been on paid administrative leave since April 18, 2012 when the first of two internal affairs investigations was launched into allegations concerning on-duty incidents.

In the first investigation, officials concluded he had been sleeping on duty, neglecting his assigned duties and engaging in conduct unbecoming of an officer. He was suspended without pay for 20 consecutive work days.

During the second investigation, internal investigators concluded Nohejl did not adhere to all general orders, special orders and standard operating procedures of the Department and Rules and Regulations of the City; he knowingly made false statements or intentionally misrepresented facts; possessed or used any controlled substance while on or off duty; reported for duty under the influence of alcohol or drugs to any degree; failed to report an on-the-job accident or personal injury; and used illegal drugs.

On Feb. 12, Noehjl was officially notified he was fired from the department. He is still in the Hernando County jail on the drug charges.
