FLORIDA--  House Bill 227, sponsored by Florida House Representative Kathleen Peters, is on its way to committee.

The bill, named Deviny's Law, aims to prevent boating tragedies like the one that killed 15-year-old Deviny Boese.  Boese died after the innertube she was riding on slammed into a dock.

The driver of the boat, a 15-year-old friend of Deviny's, tried to avoid the dock, but the turn didn't alter the innertube's trajectory, killing Boese.

The new bill is supported by Boese's mother who has worked closely with Peters to get the bill signed into law.
