Tampa, FL - It was a night for the Knights. The Robinson Knights (12-1) turned in a dominating performance against the previously unbeaten Pasco Pirates, advancing to the Class 5A state semifinals against Tallahassee Godby.
The Pirates (12-1) got a defensive touchdown to get on scoreboard first. Robinson quarterback Zain Gilmore fumbled the snap and Brandon Ray returned it 40 yards for the score.
Robinson then got their offense rolling with Robert Priester scoring on a 7-yard touchdown run, followed by a Michael Duclos 1-yard dive into the endzone, to give the Knights a 14-7 lead.
Pasco tied the game at 14-14 on a Ben Chandler 8-yard touchdown pass to Nate Craig-Myers, but then Robinson opened the flood gates, scoring 35 unanswered points, turning a close game into a blowout.
Gilmore accounted for 80 of his 120 yards rushing on an electrifying 80-yard dash that came just seconds after Pasco had tied the game. Gilmore's touchdown run knocked the wind out of the Pirates, who couldn't recover.
Martin Ruiz added 117 yards rushing, as Robinson's offensive line completely controlled the line of scrimmage.
With the victory, head coach Mike DePue (72-42) becomes Robinson's all-time leader in wins, and moves the Knights just one win away from an appearance in the state championship game.
Robinson will face Tallahassee Godby (12-1) in the comfortable confines of Jack Peters Stadium this Friday night.
