St. Petersburg, FL - The Tampa Bay Rays have re-signed senior baseball advisor Don Zimmer for the 2013 season, which will be his 65th in professional baseball.

"Zim has been a valuable resource not only for our players and coaching staff, but for our front office as well," said Rays Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman.  "We are excited that he will be returning for another season in our uniform, and look forward to many more."

"I couldn't be happier," said Zimmer.  "The organization has always been great to me.  I can't thank them enough."

Zimmer, 81, returns for his 55th season in the major leagues as a player, coach or manager.  In his current role he serves as a coach/advisor during spring training and for pregame practices at all home games.  He has been a major league coach or manager every year since 1971 following a 12-year playing career in the major leagues.

The Rays are one of 13 major league teams for which he has worn a uniform.  The 2013 season will be his 10th with the Rays, matching his longest tenure with one major league club.  Zimmer spent 10 years with the New York Yankees, including eight as bench coach for Yankees Manager Joe Torre prior to joining the Rays in 2004.
