(USA Today)-- Minnie Mouse and some of her Disney friends are the stars of Barneys New York's upcoming holiday window display -- but a dream sequence where Minnie becomes a rail-thin high-fashion model is drawing some criticism.

A short film that puts Disney characters on the runway in front of animated versions of industry heavy hitters features Minnie's daydream sequence: she's working the catwalk in Paris in a pink Lanvin dress.

While the "skinny" Minnie is only shown for a few seconds, it's a far cry from the classic cherub-cheeked, polka-dot-dressed character. Daisy Duck, Cruella De Vil and Goofy get similar slimming makeovers.

"Viewers will recognize the Minnie they know and love, as she takes a turn on the runways of Paris and in her own mirror, wearing a custom creation from one of the world's greatest designers," Barneys said in a statement to the AP. "Some of the early highly stylized fashion illustrations have garnered significant attention, however the reality is Disney's Minnie Mouse proves that true fashion lovers come in all styles and sizes."

Celebrities including Virginia Madsen and True Blood star Kristen Bauer have tweeted their concerns over the image, and an online petition to "leave Minnie alone" has received over 135,000 supporters on Change.org.
