Hawthorne, Florida -- Deputies in one Florida county are looking for someone to take a goat off their hands.

Yes, an actual goat.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office says back in September, a person came to them, saying they found a goat standing in the road in front of their home.

The goat was very friendly and described as being of "pet quality." But nobody in the neighborhood claimed it.

Unable to find the goat's owner, deputies ultimately took the animal to their livestock impound lot.

A public auction was held for the goat earlier in October... but no one turned out to put a bid on it.

Deputies are now planning to give away the animal, free of charge, this Friday at the Alachua Sheriff's Office located at 2621 SE Hawthorne Road.

Rural Services deputies will vet any potential owners.  Anyone looking for more information can contact Rural Services at 352-367-4108.
