Sarasota, Florida -- Police arrested a man who tricked an elderly woman into selling her car and then used the money to buy himself one.
Sarasota County detectives say James Sunday convinced his 86-year-old friend she needed to sell her 2008 Ford Escape because it was costing her too much money and that he would help her get a more affordable one.
During the sale of the Escape, he told the salesman that she was selling it because she couldn't drive it anymore. He then took her to cash the check for the balance owed to her after the lien was paid off but kept the entire $4,452 for himself.
He then went an bought a 1998 GMC Jimmy for about $2,500 and registered it in his name alone.
Sunday, 54, was charged with Theft from a Person over 65 years of age or older.
