NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Two emergency works received special recognition from their Panhandle town for enduring a swarm of stinging yellow jackets to rescue a man.

The Okaloosa County Commission gave the Niceville emergency medical technicians HERO awards on Tuesday.

Officials praised Tammy Franklin and Richea Driskell for braving the wasp-like pests to save a man who broke his leg and became trapped under a deck while doing yard work.

The Northwest Florida Daily News reports that Franklin was stung more than 50 times, but never stopped working to help the injured man.
