Lutz, Florida -- A man in jail for disorderly intoxication now faces more charges after a stolen iPhone was traced back to him.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says the phone's owner noticed it had been stolen from his car's glove compartment while it was parked outside the Whiskey Willy's Saloon on Sunday night in Lutz. When he tracked the phone through its GPS app, it showed it was located at the Land O'Lakes Jail.
Pasco deputies say the phone made its way behind bars thanks to 22-year-old Christopher Lindsey.
Earlier that night at Whiskey Willy's, Lindsey allegedly got into a fight with bar security. During the fight he suffered a head injury and Fire Rescue was called to the scene.
When they arrived to give aid, Lindsey reportedly tried getting into a fight with them as well, Deputies arrested Lindsey for disorderly intoxication. He was taken to the hospital for treatment before being booked into the Land O'Lakes Jail.
A sergeant at the jail confirmed that when Lindsey was booked, he claimed the iPhone did belong to him.
But after the victim alerted authorities, Lindsey was asked about the phone. During questioning, Lindsey again said the phone was his, even though he was unable to give the sergeant the key code to unlock it. When asked how he got it, he changed his story and said he bought it at the bar that night.
Now in addition to drunk and disorderly charges, Lindsey is also under arrest for Grand Theft and Burglary.
