Bucs win Schiano debut, 16-10, over Panthers

Tampa, Florida - In the debut of head coach Greg Schiano, the Bucs made him a winner, 16-10, over the Carolina Panthers.

In the 4th quarter, the two teams exchanged field goals.  Connor Barth booted his 3rd field goal of the game, a 40-yarder, to stretch the lead to 16-7...

The Panthers managed a Justin Medlock 21 yard field goal, with 2:46 left, but that was all they could score.

The Bucs held the Panthers' running game to a franchise-low 10 yards.

Josh Freeman finished 16-24 passing, for 138 yds, and a TD pass.  Rookie Doug Martin had 24 carries for 95 yards.

The Panthers scored the only touchdown of the 3rd quarter.  Cam Newton hooked up with Brandon LaFell on a 22 yard touchdown pass, to cut the Bucs' lead to 13-7.

The Bucs' secondary intercepted Newton twice in the 3rd.  Ronde Barber picked off his 44th career pass, after a tip by Aqib Talib.

Just before the end of the quarter, Ahmad Black picked off Newton and returned it to the 40 yard line, but the Bucs could not score.

Josh Freeman led an 80-yard drive on the Bucs' first series.  He threw to Mike Williams for a 6-yard touchdown, for the first score.

Connor Barth connected on a 36 yard field goal.

The Bucs put together another long drive in the second quarter, this one 90 yards.  Barth kicked another field goal, a 20-yarder, for the 13-0 halftime lead...

Freeman was 12-14 passing, for 142 yards and the TD pass to Williams in the first half.

The Bucs did not turn the ball over, nor commit a penalty, in the first half

LeGarrette Blount has left the game with an undisclosed injury.
