TAMPA, Florida (AP) - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has adopted a new program that will modify income requirements for Florida veterans who want to enter the commercial fishing industry.

The commission changed the requirements on Thursday. It modifies income requirements for the state's veterans seeking a restricted species endorsement, which allows commercial harvesters to fish for and sell species that are designated as restricted.

The commission met in Tampa on Wednesday and Thursday. Late Wednesday, the commission enacted a three-year prohibition on the recreational and commercial harvest of the giant Caribbean sea anemone. The anemone is popular in the aquarium trade, but concerns about declining population numbers led the commission to restrict the harvest.
