OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Three people are dead, including the gunman, in a shooting inside a supermarket in Old Bridge.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. inside a Pathmark supermarket on Route 9.

Police said a 23-year-old man broke into the store and shot two employees, CBS 2's Emily Smith reported.

Witnesses said two employees were shot and killed before the suspect turned the gun on himself, 1010 WINS' Steve Sandberg reported. One of the victims was 18 years old. The age of the second victim is not known.

The suspect is an ex-Marine who worked at the store for about two weeks, sources told CBS 2. He was armed with an AK-47 and an automatic pistol and dressed in camouflage, CBS 2 reported.

Police have sealed off the entire area. The case has been handed over to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

Employees said there were about a dozen workers inside the store when the shooting happened. They said the store opens early to employees on Fridays so workers can do price changes, Sandberg reported.

The store was scheduled to open at 6 a.m.

Some of the supermarket's employees were brought to a nearby T.G.I. Friday's restaurant where they are talking with police, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported.

The nearby NJ TRANSIT park-and-ride station has been closed due to the police activity. Route 9 bus service continues to operate.

NJ TRANSIT says commuters can park at the Jake Brown Road and Inverness park-and-ride. Route 9 bus tickets and passes will be accepted on North Jersey Coast Line trains.
