TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a handyman.
A Hillsborough County judge sentenced 51-year-old Leonel Marquetti on Friday. He was convicted last month of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and false imprisonment.
Prosecutors say Marquetti was jealous of his ex-girlfriend's perceived relationship with 41-year-old Michael Hurlbutt, who had done some work at the couple's home outside Plant City.
The former girlfriend testified that Marquetti confronted Hurlbutt in March 2010 as the handyman was coming out of the kitchen. She says Marquetti shot Hurlbutt once in the chest and then three more times when the man was on the ground.
