Clearwater, Florida -- A 2-year-old girl who was found in a backyard swimming pool after being left alone for about 20 minutes has died.
Investigators say the child was in the care of 39-year-old Charles Gibbs when the near-drowning happened on March 4.
After leaving the child alone for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, Gibbs discovered her floating in the pool. He pulled the child out of the water and with the help of a neighbor, they performed CPR until they were able to get a pulse.
The child was transported to the hospital, but succumbed to her injuries on March 18.
The autopsy did not reveal any signs of trauma or abuse and the cause of death is drowning. The case is still under investigation.
