Lakeland, FL --  Seven backpacks represent the seven kids killed every day in the U.S. On Wednesday, gun violence prevention advocates, including gun owners, gathered to deliver the packs filled with petitions to Congressman Dennis Ross' office.

They want the congressman to join the nearly 200 other lawmakers across the country who want to make background checks mandatory.

The leader of the Moms Demand Action Florida Chapter called the legislation a simple common sense approach and would allow family members to transfer gun ownership. She said about 1.8 million people were denied guns since 1998 due to background checks.
