ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Tampa will give nearly $1 million to the city of St. Petersburg to cover police expenses for the Aug. 26 kickoff party for the Republican National Convention at Tropicana Field.
The Tampa Bay Times reports the cities reached the deal this week, and Mayor Bill Foster signed it Friday.
Tampa is getting a $50 million federal grant to pay for extra police personnel and convention-related security purchases such as police gear, vehicles and communications equipment.
More than 20,000 people are expected at the Aug. 26 party. The convention is in Tampa and runs from Aug. 27-30.
